Q 1. Compare and contrast the Spartans and Athenians. How did their dealings with war, social structure, commerce, art, or women affect their culture? Give strong examples to support your thesis.
The social structures of Athens and Sparta were absolutely different. Athens was developed through trading and it also reflected in its size and power. The art, architecture, and the interpersonal communication with other cities brought them in the center where they emerged as the strongest naval force in Greece. Athenian democracy was made with the “Council of 500” and freeman above 18 took part in making the government. Athens used to select their assembly people in the “Council of 500” every year and the basic requirement was that the specific citizen for the position of council had to be above thirty.
